Seen from the valley floor the Katzenstein is an enormous
rock. If you come from the other side, by train to Marienberg and further by
bike without significant ascents around the Schlettenbach and Rote Pockau
valleys to the Katzenstein, you will easily arrive and enjoy the view to the
surrounding rocks and deep into the valley to the creek. In case you even so
break sweat, just dive into the cool water in one of the outdoor pools along
the way. A visit in the miles long mining drifts below Pobershau, that you
can expierence in the visitor´s mine, is guaranteed cool, too.

The
Family route
A hiking and biking trail leads from the railway
station Marienberg through the Moosbach Valley gradually into the Wolfsberg
Pass. Here you shouldn´t miss a short side trip on the top of Drei Brueder
Hoehe with a view tower, especially on good visibility conditions. Further
we make our way first in cleared area, later through forest on comfortable
forest roads right up to the Katzenstein rock. Now we have three variants
for getting back to the train at the station Zoeblitz-Pobershau – (1) along
the Schwarzwasser Valley (hardly frequented minor road), (2) along the ridge
(forest road, very steep descent at the end) or (3) on roads through
Pobershau, at the end cca. 800 metres on a federal highway.
