From the mountain foot to the ridge
Between the Zschopau and Floeha Valleys there is a 50 km long side ridge
from Jelení hora (994 m) northwards to the Augustusburg castle on the
Schellenberg (516 m). Following this course you avoid the deep valleys.
Already the traders in ancient times took advantage of that, when they made
their way on the „Salt Road“ across the Ore Mountains from Saxony to Bohemia.
Whereas their way went through the dangerous miriquidi, the dark wood, today
you´ll enjoy the most beautiful views from the ridge. When the morning fog
still lies in the valleys, your view already roams around to the curious
table mountains vis-à-vis and often even to the 50 km distant Auersberg.

The Panoramic route
For
the greater part there runs a road directly along the ridge. Our
route-advice (not marked) by-passes the road as far as possible and runs
mostly at wood paths. In the middle part between Boernchen and Lauta there
are three variants. The dotted line stays nearest to to ridge, but runs 500
metres at the very frequented main road B 174. In contrast the traffic on
the road between Augustusburg and Hohndorf keeps within limits, so that it
could be an alternative to the paths especially on wet days.
