Katzenstein (Cat´s stone)

Orchids in Ansprung |
The Panoramic route
The Katzenstein (Cat stone) is
one of the finest viewpoints over the Schwarzwasser (Black Water) Valley,
but by far not the only one on our unmarked route. We start at the railway
station Pockau-Lengefeld (direct connection from Chemnitz) and go on the
hiking und biking way “Pockautalweg” up to Rittersberg. Further we climb
steeply uphill first in the forest, later through the village of Pobershau
until the Katzenstein view rocks. Some metres further on we cross the Green
Ditch (Gruener Graben) where it breaks through the water divide. For
centuries this canal leads additional water power into the Pobershau mining
area.
On the other side of the Schwarzwasser Valley you shouldn´t miss trips to
the Steinhuebel and Vogeltoffelfelsen view rocks, as well as to the orchid
meadow in Ansprung. Zoeblitz is the origin of the serpentine columns in the
Semper Opera Dresden. The processing of this noble material is shown in the
local serpentine museum. The last passage of this route is a 300 metres
descent back to Pockau.
