The Schoenbergs were knights, marshals
and ministers at the royal saxon court. For nearly 200 years they also acted
as the mining chiefs of the Ore mountains. And they had a sense for
aesthetics. In the middle of the rough beauty of the mountains they built
the fabulous castles Purschenstein and Pfaffroda, where they had their
residence till 1945.
The other two jewels on our way, the manor in
Forchheim and the Rauenstein castle, did not belong to the Schoenberg´s
estate, but they are worth seeing as well. Between them extends the
Saidenbach reservoir amidst dark spruce forests. It is closed for every kind
of water sports and therefore an oasis of calm and a wildlife paradise. |
