The Silver Road
Silver is the mother of the Ore mountains. During the so
called “Grosses Berggeschrey” (The big Silver Fever) at the end of the
Middle Ages people streamed from everywhere into the miriquidi, the Dark
Forest between Saxony and Bohemia, to mine silver out of the deep. No other
mountains are connected so closely with mining. The Ore mountains are
characterized not only by mines and dumps, but also by smelteries and, of
course, the rich mining towns with their large hall churches, as there are
Annaberg und Marienberg. Even when the source of prosperity run dry and the
people battled as craftspeople for their existence, they abided with the
motives miner and candle arch by the mining. |
