Below Krystofovy Hamry the
mountain ridges push the Pressnitz river into a 300 m deep valley. Since
1892 the steam locomotives of the Pressnitztalbahn snort through the valley
here, between Steinbach and Joehstadt you can experience them til today.
From Steinbach downwards the bikeway
runs on the former railway line, that was once hemmed by countless mines and
hammer mills. In Niederschmiedeberg there was made history just a few years
ago - in 1993 we constructed the first CFC-free fridge in the world here.
These all are only short episodes for the Pressnitz river. As from time
immemorial the river meanders between shining forests on steep mountainsides
northwards and reaches the Zschopau river just before the renaissance palace
of Wolkenstein.
