The
Sisters´ Valley
The Schweinitz river
forms nearly on its whole 18
km long course the historical border between Bohemia and
Saxony. It rises in the moor area at the Black
Lake (Cerný rybník) on the Bohemian side in 805
m altitude, carves
its way through an old mining area with the former
mining town Sankt Katharinaberg (Hora Svaté Kateriny)
and flows in Gruenthal into the
Floeha. Today you can have a look at the
traditions of mining in the Visitor´s mine "Fortunastollen"
in Deutschkatharinenberg. Today
nobody looks here for silver and brass, but rather
for the Amber room.

The
Valley route
The route runs mostly
on forest or minor roads
along the slope. Therefore you
have beautiful views to the surrounding
mountains and the exposed former Mining town St. Katharinaberg.
From the spring Giselaquelle to
Katharinenberg we use the hiking trail
Schweinitztalweg (yellow signs). Below Hora Sv. Kateriny
we continue on the czech side via Brandov to Gruenthal.
